1) Who are you and how would you describe your art style?
My name is Izam and I go by the handle “Munky Doodles”. I am currently a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. I would describe my art style as a mix of bag of portraits and alternative movie poster illustrations based on popular culture. It is incorporated through bright colours and striking line work which the outcome can be chaotic but yet engaging.
2) Has your art style changed over time and if yes, how?
Yes, my art style has changed over time. When I first started out, my work was very abstract and expressive. Both my illustrations and paintings would be filled with bold colours and dynamic strokes help aso express energy and emotions. However, as I got older, my style has become more refined and subdued. I would spend hours trying to capture every detail in my illustrations. My art style is constantly evolving, and I am always looking for new ways to express myself creatively.
3) When in a creative block, what helps you get started again?
When I'm in a creative block, I like to take a break from my work and do something else that I enjoy. This could be anything from spending some quality time with my family to playing some video games. Sometimes, just taking a break from my work is all I need to get my creative juices flowing again. If I'm still feeling stuck, I might try doing some research on other artists or looking at inspiration images. Sometimes, just seeing other people's work can help me get inspired to create my own.
4) Have you ever had any negative comments on your work, and how did you overcome it?
I think it's important to remember that not everyone is going to like your work, and that's okay. What's important is that you stay true to your own style and vision. If you're constantly trying to please everyone, you're never going to be happy with your work.
When I receive negative feedback, I try to take it constructively. I ask myself if there is any truth to what the person is saying, and if there is, I try to learn from it. I also try to remember that everyone has different tastes, and what one person might not like, another person might love.
The most important thing is to not let negative feedback get to you. It's easy to get discouraged, but it's important to remember that you're doing what you love. If you're passionate about your work, keep doing it and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
5) If you could go back in time to spend a day with your favorite artist, who would it be and what would you do together?
If I could go back in time to spend a day with a favorite artist, I would choose Vincent van Gogh. I would love to learn more about his process and how he came up with his unique style. I think it would be an incredibly insightful and inspiring experience.
I would start by taking him to see some of the places that inspired his work, such as the fields of sunflowers and the night sky.
I think van Gogh would be fascinated by the way his work has been interpreted and reinterpreted over the years. He would be proud to see that his legacy continues to inspire artists around the world.
6) If your artworks are a type of music, what would it be and how would it sound like?
It would sound like K-pop haha just kidding! It probably would be a blend of 80s pop, rock and classical. I just love the raw energy and the sense of nostalgia in 80s music, but I also appreciate the complexity and beauty of classical music. I think my artwork would reflect all of these different influences.
7) If you knew you had one last chance to express yourself creatively, what would be the message you want to say?
If I knew I had one last chance to express myself creatively, I would want to say that art is important. It is a way for us to connect with our emotions, to express ourselves, and to make sense of the world around us. Art can be a powerful tool for change, and I believe that it is something that we should all cherish. If you have a passion for art, pursue it with all your heart. You never know where it might take you. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something.
