1) Who are you and tell us why you do what you do?
I'm a full time corporate person and part time creative who goes by the pseudonym doodlesandcolors. I create colourful abstract paintings and doodles - it helps me feel grounded and as a person who tends to overthink a lot and would have difficulties in articulating or expressing out emotions through words, creating abstract pieces help me give a certain narrative and with that, I would also hope people would understand that (abstract) art is more than just a beautiful piece of imagery.
2) How have your childhood experiences influenced your present creative endeavours and style?
I remember being so amazed with my uncle’s paintings, one of them was that he painted Disney princesses on our wall and I recall looking at it and thinking wow this is such an incredible painting that I thought it was a big sticker! Although his style is different from mine, it was more about the inspiration to create and that impact an art piece would give to anyone.
3) Could you describe your state of mind and how you feel when you are creating?
It's sort of like meditation and I’d feel at peace. If there are times when I am feeling overwhelmed - like a string that is all tangled up, and when I start to create, I’d feel like I am untangling myself.
4) What is your most favourite or memorable creative accomplishment?
I have a few! Top 3 on top of my head; Id say that Im grateful for the chance I was given to do a solo exhibition back at the wharf before it was renovated, hues of happiness’ exhibition in Malaysia (KL) was such an accomplishment that I get to have my art hung next to wonderful veteran creatives from other countries and then there’s the exhibition in Vincom center for contemporary art in Vietnam, never would I have imagined that my art pieces would go that far so i'm grateful for that.
5) What words of inspiration were given to you that you would like to pass along to others?
ART is passion
ART is an escape
ART is an expression
ART is an affirmation
ART is life itself
6) In your creative experience, is there anything that you wished you had learned earlier or done differently?
I think creating is a never ending journey of learning, I feel that every time I create something, there would be something new that I learn and to say if there is something I wished to have done differently? I’d say not quite as I'm pretty content with what I've obtained through my experience but perhaps its to not be so hard on myself when the creative block comes up.
