1) Who are you and how would you describe your art style?
I’m Aliyah, currently an architecture student and I think I’m a chronic sketch-ist.
2) Has your art style changed over time and if yes, how?
Definitely, I’ve always been fond of sketching and watercolour. I did it digitally on my dad’s work iPad (sorry dad) and on whatever random piece of paper I could find. It evolved to drawing a lot of fan art, and quite honestly never really had a dedicated style. Nowadays, I come back to traditionally sketching architectural illustrations, and mostly animals.
3) When in a creative block, what helps you get started again?
I had a bad habit of sitting it out for a while, but I’ve mediated by just drawing anything on any ugly medium, cause I wouldn’t be afraid to mess it up. My victim is a cheap passport sized memo pad.
4) Have you ever had any negative comments on your work, and how did you overcome it?
That it was sometimes really messy, unfinished and my colour theory is whack. I’m still bad with my colours, hence, I keep to a monochromatic composition or build with primaries. I still keep the messy sketches, those are the building blocks of my “style”
5) If you could go back in time to spend a day with your favorite artist, who would it be and what would you do together?
Maruti Bitamin was and still is my first few favourite artists, I would love to visit a garden or aquarium and watercolour with them.
6) If your artworks are a type of music, what would it be and how would it sound like?
Animal Crossing New Leaf OST, specifically 5PM or 7PM
7) If you knew you had one last chance to express yourself creatively, what would be the message you want to say?
That I still created something, even when they seem minor and insignificant
